Couples Therapy: Part One
AAKANKSHA AGARWAL
February 2, 2026
From harvest chaos to long game decisions, these longtime winery partners show what it really takes to build a business, vineyard and shared life.
For many Oregon wineries, the partnership behind the bottle matters as much as the wine itself. In some cases, they are not only business collaborators but married couples, building a life and winery, side by side…

Today we share a great historic house out of Oregon. Back in 1987 Don and Wendy Lange acquired a massive property in the Dundee Hills, with incredible views of the valley. Don crafted his namesake wines for many years and over time his son Jesse transitioned into their head winemaker, taking over for his father. Jesse’s formal winemaking training occurred at New Zealand’s Lincoln University while on a student exchange scholarship from Oregon State in 1999. Jesse made world-class wines for years…
2023 a Strong Vintage for Willamette Valley

When I talked with Lange Estate winemaker and winegrower Jesse Lange following the 2023 harvest, he was positively giddy about the young wines that he had in barrel. “The wines are the most precocious I have ever seen in our 34 years of making wine here in the Willamette Valley,” Lange said at the time. “We’ve never seen wines this good, this early.”
Now, it’s fully two years later, and these wines are being released. Lange continues to be effusive about them…

At Lange Estate Winery, sitting in the terroir-rich Dundee Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, storytelling is just as essential as crafting their estate-grown wines. Lange hopes visitors will see wine not as something exclusive or intimidating—but as a shared experience in beautiful places grounded in inclusivity and community among your friends and family.

Lange Estate was part of the early second wave of Pinot Noir producers in Oregon’s Willamette Valley; Don and Wendy Lange came to the Dundee Hills in 1987. Now in the second generation, with son Jesse taking the reins, Lange Estate continues to consistently produce noteworthy Pinot Noirs, and Pinot Gris of remarkable quality.

2022 Lange ‘Estate’ Pinot Noir
Oregon | Willamette Valley
“The 2022 ‘Estate’ is a barrel selection wine coming from this 65 acre location in the Dundee Hills AVA set on Jory soils. The nose shows dense dark fruits with black florals alongside suggestions of marionberry and tangerine zest. The palate is dense and very volcanic soil-infused with its beautiful core of black and red fruits. Considering the vintage there is some really good flavor density. This has a long way to go in the cellar.” Drink 2024-2040 – 95 Points
