The Lange Family owns 60 acres of land on three properties here in the Dundee Hills. A total of 45 acres are planted with a mix of Pinot noir, Pinot gris, and Chardonnay vines.
The original Lange Estate Vineyard (30 acres) was purchased in 1987 and first planted in 1988 with a mix of all three varietals.
The Mia Block (15 acres) was purchased in 2003 and first planted in 2004 with Pinot noir vines. This block is adjacent to the original estate and named for Wendy Lange‘s middle name.
Redside Vineyard (15 acres) was purchased in 2006 and first planted in 2007 with Pinot noir vines. The vineyard is named for the gorgeous “Redside” trout which are native and indigenous to the Deschutes River Basin. “Redside” is also a reference to our red, volcanic soils found on all of our properties.
Lange Estate Winery is proud to be a located in the prestigious Dundee Hills Appellation, which is known for its volcanic soils (Jory and Nekia). These soils are deep and provide good drainage. Grapevine roots are encouraged to grow deep into the earth where the rich soils can provide nourishment. The ideal growing conditions provided by the soil, elevation, and climate of the Dundee Hills produce consistently excellent wines.
To further supplement our case production, the Langes purchase additional fruit from the best vineyards in the surrounding area. Long-standing relationships with these blue-ribbon sites have helped the winery establish a well-deserved reputation for consistency and complexity in the wines.
