“This excellent Pinot Gris is barrel fermented in neutral French oak, and is still young enough to show a yeasty freshness to the aromas and in the mouth. There seems to be a touch of residual sugar, or at least a generous fruity sweetness to the palate. Apple and cinnamon flavors complete the picture.” – Paul Gregutt

2012 Lange Estate ‘Dundee Hills’ Pinot Noir

“Plush and generous, light-footed but expansive, with a hint of crème brûlée to the plum, currant and spice flavors that take off and float through the long, enticing finish. The tannins are well absorbed. Drink now through 2022”. -H.S

Lush aromatics instantly alert you that this is an exceptional year for this vineyard. Aged in half new French oak, the wine takes it in stride, as it is dense with spicy red berry and plum flavors, and beautifully balanced throughout. Streaks of coffee and nut butter add to the compelling complexity, even at such a young age.

“Pretty aromas of boysenberry and spicy plum carry over into a broad palate. The fruit is framed with ripe tannins, and just a touch of finishing heat. It’s drinking nicely, but should benefit from bottle aging until 2017 for optimum enjoyment.” – Paul Gregutt

2012 Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton Assemblage

Wine Enthusiast

92 Points- Wine Enthusiast
Carefully distinguished from the other Lange Pinots, this cuvée marries thick cherry fruit to highlights of cola, anise and earth. The winery’s defining trait is crafting wines with impeccable balance, that are already seamless and highly approachable upon release, yet have the style and substance for cellaring over the next 8–10 years.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton Assemblage is limited to eight barrels this year. It has a very well-defined bouquet with dark plum, boysenberry and mineral aromas that gently waft from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe fleshy tannin, undergrowth-infused black fruit, a little dusty perhaps toward the finish, but remaining focused and fresh. This is a very fine Pinot Noir that deserves a year in bottle. Just 144 cases produced.

“Aged in neutral French oak, this Pinot Gris retains a lively, palate-cleansing acidity. It’s consistent in style and flavor with the regular bottling, but this has added depth and richness. Fruit flavors of sweet Macintosh apples give it a pretty finish.”

“Wonderfully fragrant on the nose with bright notes of pollen, lemon blossom, lemon and a touch of sandy soil. In the mouth, this is just off dry with big acids lending a succulence to what is a lush but not weighty wine. The fruit starts out with an almost grapefruit character due to the high acids, all layered over a mineral base with excellent length and great purity of fruit. The back end sees a bit of orchard fruit popping up along with a hint of lemon oil, all held together with excellent tension and real river stone freshness on the moderately long finish.” -Gregory Dal Piaz

(Best Buy) This leads with mocha and leather scents before plummy sweetness emerges with air. Its dark core of fruit tastes as if it were dusted with unsweetened chocolate. Give this a year in the cellar to come together.

“This is a comfortable, modest wine with subtle pleasures. Strawberry and cherry fruit combine in a clean, fresh, lightly-oaked Pinot with medium length. Winemaker Jesse Lange has given the wine elegant proportion, and a kiss of vanilla in the finish.” – Paul Gregutt

“Clean and fresh on the nose with almond lotion tones under crisp pear and lime fruit. This is lightweight and fresh on the palate with a finely integrated yet zesty vein of acidity. The flavors run to the crisp, white orchard fruit end of the spectrum- white peaches and pear topped with citrus notes. This turns just a little rounded on the back end but never gains any unnecessary weight. The finish is pure and crisp with more white orchard fruit tones over river stone minerality.”

“Leading with scents of ripe pear and toffee, ’this wine’s intriguing mélange of fruit flavors crosses juicy apple with lemon lime. A touch of salinity delineates a citrusy finish. The tanginess may remind you of Chablis.”

“Intense and fresh on the nose, this explodes with fresh citrus notes, kiwi peel, salty mineral elements and lovely Asian pear and acacia aromas all topped with gentle toasty spice. Reticent on entry, this is rather laid back early on with vivid acids that slowly lift up the fine, pure fruit. Shows grapefruit, melon and pear fruit, maybe a hint of guava as well. This is just a touch creamy, with a nice accent of wood spice that helps transition to the finish. Very long finish. This is elegant and refined, another wine easy lose in a crowd, but one that really rewards examination.”

There are forest floor scents and plum jam flavors in a subtle contrast, the elements coming together with remarkable textural persistence, the finish penetrating and satisfying at once. It has the heft for wild salmon.”
